Custom Foot Orthotics

Orthotics are corrective and removable medical insoles prescribed by your chiropodists/foot care specialists at Active Foot Care Clinic and Orthotic Centre, and are designed to:

  • adjust and control the function of the foot
  • improve the foots alignment with the lower leg
  • treat and prevent injury causing motions including excessive pronation and supination
  • make standing, walking and running more efficient
  • eliminate foot and lower leg pain and ailments

After undergoing a complete, individually tailored biomechanical assessment, and a stance and gait analysis, your orthotics are custom made using three dimensional impression casts of your feet. Just like prescription eye glasses, custom made orthotics come in different materials (soft & hard), designs, styles, shapes and corrections, to treat your foot or ankle ailment based on such factors as activities, job environment and footwear.

Our hand crafted designed custom foot orthotics are exceptionally well made and are significantly superior to those of our competitors. They have been used to successfully treat foot and ankle conditions such as:

  • heel pain / plantar fasciitis
  • bunion pain / hallux valgus
  • hammer toes
  • ankle pain, trauma or injury
  • arthritic feet
  • corns & calluses
  • flat feet
  • fallen arches
  • high arches
  • pronation
  • supination
  • heel spur syndrome
  • metatarsalgia / Morton’s neuroma
  • diabetic feet
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • bursitis
  • foot, knee, leg or lower back pain and fatigue
  • ulcers
  • sports injuries

Active Foot Care Clinic and Orthotic Centre also offers off-loading custom foot orthotics for the treatment of corns and calluses. Our chiropodist/foot care specialist are some of the only regulated health care professionals in Brantford and Hamilton trained specifically in analyzing and diagnosing foot functions and prescribing orthotic devices. Active Foot Care Clinic and Orthotic Centre uses state-of-the-art gait scan technology to assess and analyze your feet. The results of the analysis, combined with the knowledge and expertise of our chiropodist/foot care specialist, permits us to successfully detect abnormal foot function which may be affecting your feet and other areas of your body.

Your foot is in contact with the ground for approximately 0.8 of a second while walking, and about 0.25 of a second while running. Due to the rapid movement of the feet, determining normal or abnormal foot function without the use of gait scan technology is too difficult for even the most experienced chiropodists/foot care specialists. Gait scan technology records your timing sequences as you walk or run, enabling our practitioners to gain a concise analysis of your foot mechanics, and decide if you would benefit from wearing custom made foot orthotics.

Active Foot Care Clinic and Orthotic Centres' gait scan technology will scan your foot to capture its distribution of pressure, map your foots pressure to determine where there is too much or too little, prints a report which assists our chiropodist/foot care specialist in evaluating your foot function and determining if it is the source of your issue. From there we can decide the necessity for orthotic therapy, and the data is forwarded securely to a laboratory where your custom made orthotics are manufactured specifically to your feet.
